About the Role
As a Senior Scientist — Bioanalytical (LC-MS/MS), you will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable impact within the Vanta Bioscience ecosystem. This role blends hands-on execution with strategic scientific oversight. You will be a key scientific contributor responsible for the development, validation, and execution of quantitative LC-MS/MS bioanalytical methods to support pharmacokinetic (PK), toxicokinetic (TK), and biomarker studies. Working in a GLP-regulated environment, you will ensure that all bioanalytical activities meet the highest standards of scientific rigor, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Method Development & Validation: Develop, optimize, and validate robust LC-MS/MS methods for the quantitative analysis of small molecules, peptides, and biomarkers in various biological matrices (plasma, serum, tissues, urine).
- Sample Analysis: Oversee and execute the analysis of study samples for GLP and non-GLP toxicology and clinical studies, ensuring timely and accurate data delivery.
- Instrumentation: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced LC-MS/MS systems (e.g., SCIEX, Waters, Agilent, Thermo Fisher) and associated software.
- Study Leadership: Act as the Bioanalytical Study Director or Principal Investigator for assigned studies. Review and approve protocols, amendments, and final bioanalytical reports.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all laboratory activities comply with GLP, GCP, and applicable regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA, OECD). Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and complete laboratory documentation.
- Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve analytical, instrumental, and matrix-related issues during method development and sample analysis.
- Mentorship & Training: Provide scientific guidance, training, and mentorship to junior scientists, research associates, and laboratory technicians to elevate team capabilities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Study Directors, Project Managers, and Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure seamless project execution and client communication.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with evolving regulatory bioanalytical guidelines and industry best practices, driving continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
Requirements
- Education: Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. (Candidates with an M.Pharm/M.Sc. and exceptional relevant experience will also be considered).
- Experience: 5 to 8 years of hands-on, progressive experience in a regulated bioanalytical laboratory (CRO or pharmaceutical industry) specifically working with LC-MS/MS.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of sample preparation techniques (SPE, LLE, PPT, protein digestion) and chromatographic separation principles.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of GLP regulations and regulatory bioanalytical guidance documents (FDA, EMA, ICH, OECD).
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of mentoring junior staff, managing workload distribution, and serving as a Principal Investigator/Study Director.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to author complex bioanalytical reports and present data clearly to internal teams and clients.
- Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills with a detail-oriented approach to data integrity.
