Analyst — Food & Water Testing

About the Role

As an Analyst in the Food & Water Testing division, you will play a vital role in safeguarding public health and ensuring regulatory compliance within the Vanta Bioscience ecosystem. This role blends hands-on laboratory execution with rigorous data documentation. You will be responsible for performing a variety of microbiological and chemical analyses on food, beverage, and water samples. Working in a highly regulated, ISO/IEC 17025 environment, you will ensure that all testing is conducted accurately and efficiently, delivering reliable data that meets the standards set by regulatory bodies like FSSAI, BIS, and AOAC.

Responsibilities

  • Sample Analysis: Perform routine and non-routine microbiological and chemical testing on food, water, and environmental samples (e.g., testing for pathogens, spoilage organisms, heavy metals, pesticides, and physico-chemical parameters).
  • Instrumentation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, AAS, ICP-MS, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, and autoclaves.
  • Protocol Adherence: Strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), official testing methods (FSSAI, IS, AOAC, USP), and laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record test data, observations, and calculations in laboratory notebooks and the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Prepare and review Certificates of Analysis (CoA).
  • Quality Control: Participate in daily QA/QC activities, including the analysis of blanks, standards, spikes, and control samples to ensure the accuracy and precision of test results.
  • Sample Management: Assist in the receipt, logging, preservation, and disposal of laboratory samples in accordance with chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and promptly troubleshoot basic instrumental or method-related issues.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of chemical and biological waste.

Requirements

  • Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, Biochemistry, or Environmental Sciences.
  • Experience: 1 to 4 years of hands-on laboratory experience in food, water, or environmental testing (experience in a NABL-accredited or ISO/IEC 17025 certified lab is highly preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Strong practical knowledge of microbiological techniques (e.g., membrane filtration, pour plate, biochemical identification) and/or chemical analysis techniques.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FSSAI, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and AOAC testing methodologies.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in testing, calculations, and documentation, with a strong commitment to data integrity.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative laboratory team. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods in the laboratory and handle chemical reagents safely.
